ON THE ISSUES

It’s the truth: looking out for each other and affordability go hand in hand. It starts with education and preparing our children to navigate a changing economy. It includes healthcare as a right, with the understanding that a rising number of uninsured push all premiums higher. It means restoring the dignity of work and incentivising all types of affordable housing. And most importantly, it means always pushing back on the politics of division, the us versus them mentality, and recognizing each other as neighbors and fellow Texans worthy of dignity and respect.

Public Schools & Academic Freedom

  • Increase per-pupil funding and tie it to cost of living so that every student, regardless of race, income, or zip code can attend a fully funded school

  • Guarantee universal full-day Pre-K, provide free and healthy school meals, emphasize bilingual and dual-language programs, and improve funding and support for special education

  • Increase salaries for teachers, paraprofessionals, and support staff so that one job is enough to make a living and improve pensions and healthcare for retired education professionals

  • Stop book bans and politically-motivated censorship of textbooks or curriculum standards

  • Restore tenure, promote academic freedom and free speech, and increase research funding

High Quality, Affordable Healthcare

  • Expand Medicaid and increase reimbursement rates, especially for pediatrics, preventative care, and behavioral health

  • Increase home visitation and family support programs with a special focus on new parents

  • Ensure IVF and family planning are affordable for all families, particularly for those in low income or underserved areas

  • Remove cost and access barriers to mental health care by guaranteeing affordable, community-based mental health services for children and families while making it easier for providers to offer telehealth or mobile services

  • Implement statewide programs for early childhood screenings, vaccinations, and chronic disease prevention and management

Good Jobs & Labor Rights

  • Raise the minimum wage and eliminate the subminimum wage for youth or tipped workers

  • Pass paid medical, sick, parental, family care, and bereavement leave

  • Expand job training, upskilling and reskilling opportunities, and apprenticeship programs, especially in emerging industries such as renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, and semiconductor fabrication

  • Preserve automatic payroll deductions, protect the right to organize and join a union, and allow public sector workers to collectively bargain

  • Guarantee safe and healthy workplaces for all workers — regardless of immigration status, race, or gender — by requiring water breaks, strong heat protections, and enforceable safety standards across every industry

Housing & Affordability

  • Increase affordable housing, incentivize “missing middle” construction, and reduce displacement and gentrification

  • Create pathways to homeownership through state-level downpayment assistance, low-interest loan programs, and tax credits

  • Strengthen eviction protections for renters, hold landlords accountable for ignoring repairs or health and safety standards, and require every rental unit to have a functioning HVAC system

  • Make childcare more affordable while reducing waitlists and licensing barriers

  • Ensure lease agreements, mortgage documents, and HOA information are provided in multiple languages

Connected, Modern, & Resilient Communities

  • Expand affordable, high-speed broadband by building a statewide fiber network that closes racial, rural, and economic gaps in access

  • Address economic and racial inequities in access to healthy food by reducing food deserts and supporting grocery stores, food co-ops, and urban agriculture in underserved communities

  • Invest in public transit, including regional and high speed rail, and expand multimodal infrastructure such as sidewalks, protected bike lanes, and safe routes to schools

  • Repair aging pipes, fund recapture and reuse technologies, and develop sustainable new water supply

  • Shore up the electric grid and transmission systems, invest in energy storage, and prioritize wind, solar, and other renewable power generation, with an emphasis on union jobs and apprenticeship programs

Equality & Dignity for Every Texan

  • End the criminalization of immigrant communities and dismantle state-imposed barriers — including restoring in-state tuition for undocumented youth, eliminating discriminatory land-ownership laws, and ensuring equal access to housing, education, and healthcare regardless of immigration status

  • Pass a comprehensive statewide non-discrimination ordinance

  • Strengthen legal protections and create inclusive environments for LGBTQ+ Texans at school, work, and in their communities

  • Guarantee reproductive freedom for all by ensuring access to abortion, family planning, and comprehensive care without barriers, discrimination, or stigma

  • Expand language access across all Texas state agencies so everyone can get services in the language they understand

Criminal Justice Reform

  • Legalize, regulate, and tax cannabis for personal use by Texas adults aged 21+

  • Oppose attempts to mandate cash bail and expand pre-trial detention

  • Increase funding for diversion programs; expand access to specialty programs geared towards youthful offenders, drug use, and veterans; and improve re-entry programs to provide comprehensive supports that deter homelessness or reoffending

  • Adopt a community-policing model centered on de-escalation, responsible use of force, and building community trust, while ending local collaborations with ICE

  • Ensure humane conditions in correctional facilities by providing access to air conditioning, essential medications, mental health care, menstrual and feminine hygiene products, and gender-affirming care for all incarcerated people

Gun Safety

  • Require universal background checks and close loopholes for gun shows and private sales

  • Repeal campus carry and open carry laws

  • Pass red flag laws, strengthen extreme risk protective orders, and implement comprehensive policies that more effectively protect survivors of gun violence

  • Increase education on gun safety, safe storage, and suicide prevention, including school-based programs for youth that emphasize social-emotional learning and conflict resolution

  • Improve funding for community-based violence intervention, including street outreach programs, hospital-based programs, and group violence intervention programs

Voting Rights

  • Eliminate barriers that prevent young people, seniors, Texans of color, and new citizens from registering to vote or casting their ballots; end voter purges; decriminalize participation in elections for voters and election workers; and curb interference and intimidation by partisan poll watchers

  • Enact online voter registration, same day voter registration, and automatic voter registration

  • Implement universal vote by mail, allow for electronic sign ups, and expand VBM cure opportunities so applications and ballots aren’t thrown out for honest mistakes

  • Expand in person voting opportunities and allow counties to offer extended voting hours on nights and weekends

  • Increase funding for voting systems, cybersecurity and training, and election worker pay
